What to do if your registrar says your DNS is managed by a different nameserver

Why you can't edit DNS records directly in GoDaddy or other registrars, and how to request DNS changes through Luxury Presence.

Overview

If you try to make DNS changes in GoDaddy — or another domain registrar — and see a message like "We can't add a DNS record because it is through a different name server," this is expected behavior. Luxury Presence manages DNS for your website through Cloudflare, which means your registrar can't make DNS changes directly.

This applies to all DNS record types, including SPF, DKIM, DMARC, A records, CNAME records, and TXT records.

Why your registrar can't edit your DNS records

Luxury Presence uses Cloudflare to manage DNS for your website. When your domain's nameservers point to Cloudflare rather than your registrar's default nameservers, your registrar loses the ability to add or modify DNS records — that control now lives in Cloudflare. This is intentional and provides more reliable, secure DNS management.

GoDaddy may display a message like: "We can't add a DNS record because it is through a different name server." Other registrars may show a similar message in different wording.

How to request a DNS change

Luxury Presence will make DNS changes in Cloudflare on your behalf. To request an update, email the details of the records you need added or modified to support@luxurypresence.com.

Include the following for each record:

• Record type — A, CNAME, TXT, MX, or other
• Host / Name — The subdomain or domain the record applies to (e.g., mail.yourdomain.com)
• Value / Target — The value the record should point to
• TTL — Time to Live, if specified by your provider (leave blank if unsure)

Example: If GoDaddy provides SPF, DKIM, or DMARC records to verify your email domain, send those exact record details to our support team and we'll add them to Cloudflare for you.

If you're moving your domain away from Luxury Presence

If you're transferring your domain to a new hosting provider and need to regain direct DNS control, you'll need to update your nameserver settings to point away from Cloudflare.

1. Log in to your domain registrar's control panel.
2. Locate the nameserver settings for your domain.
3. Replace the current Cloudflare nameservers with your new hosting provider's nameservers — your new provider will supply these values.
4. Save the changes and allow 24–48 hours for propagation.

Why can't I edit my DNS records in GoDaddy?

Luxury Presence manages DNS through Cloudflare, which means your domain's nameservers point to Cloudflare rather than GoDaddy. GoDaddy can't add or modify records when another provider controls the nameservers. This is expected — contact the Luxury Presence support team to make DNS changes on your behalf.

Can I get direct access to the Cloudflare account to make my own changes?

No. Luxury Presence manages the Cloudflare account and cannot grant client access to it. To add or update DNS records, email the record details to support@luxurypresence.com or contact our support team via live chat or phone and we'll make the changes for you.

What DNS records can Luxury Presence add on my behalf?

We can add any DNS record type — including A, CNAME, TXT, MX, SPF, DKIM, and DMARC records. Provide the record type, host/name, value, and TTL (if specified) and our team will handle the rest.

Does this apply to registrars other than GoDaddy?

Yes. Any registrar will show a similar error if your domain's nameservers point to Cloudflare rather than the registrar's own nameservers. The same process applies regardless of which registrar you use — contact our support team with the record details and we'll add them in Cloudflare.
