How to fix a broken link in a gallery or slider

If a link in your gallery or slider is not opening when clicked, the link or the element containing it may have been hidden. Follow these steps to check and restore its visibility.

1. Navigate to the Presence® Platform.
2. Click Websites from the left-hand menu, then hover over the site you want to edit and select the pen icon.
3. Use the page dropdown in the top-left corner to navigate to the page you want to edit.
4. Click the Edit button in the top-right corner to enter edit mode.
5. Open the gallery or slider settings and locate the link.
6. Look for the eye icon next to the link. If the eye icon is crossed out or greyed out, the link is disabled — click it to re-enable it.
7. If the link appears enabled but is still not working, select the specific element (such as a button) and check its visibility settings. Hidden elements display as grey text in the editor — click the eye icon to make the element visible.
8. Save your changes.
9. Test the link in an incognito browser window to confirm it opens correctly.

Tip: Always test links in an incognito browser window after making changes. This bypasses cached data and shows your website exactly as a new visitor would see it.

How to fix a broken link in your site navigation

If a link in your navigation menu is broken or pointing to the wrong page, you can correct it directly from Global Elements.

1. Navigate to the Presence® Platform.
2. Click Websites from the left-hand menu, then hover over the site you want to edit and select the pen icon.
3. In the white top navigation bar, click the Global Elements icon (four dots).
4. Navigate to Header > Content and locate the menu item with the broken link.
5. Replace the broken link with the exact live URL of the correct page.
6. Save and publish your changes.
7. Test the updated link in an incognito browser window to confirm it resolves correctly.

How to set up a redirect for an old or changed URL

Updating a navigation link fixes where the menu item points going forward, but it does not automatically redirect anyone who bookmarked or shared the old URL. Setting up a 301 redirect ensures those visitors are sent to the correct page instead of seeing a 404 error.

1. Navigate to the Presence® Platform.
2. Click Websites from the left-hand menu, then hover over the site you want to edit and select the pen icon.
3. In the white top navigation bar, click the three-dots icon next to the Edit button.
4. Select Site Settings from the dropdown.
5. Navigate to Redirects.
6. Enter the old URL and the new target URL to create the redirect.
7. Save your changes.

Why is a link in my gallery or slider not opening?

The most common cause is that the link or the button containing it has been hidden in the editor. To fix this, open the gallery or slider settings in edit mode and look for the eye icon next to the link or element — if it is crossed out or greyed out, click it to re-enable it. Why is my navigation link going to the wrong page?

Navigation links can become incorrect if a page URL was changed after the link was set up, or if the link was entered with a typo. Do I need to set up a redirect every time I update a navigation link?

You only need a redirect if the old URL was previously live and may have been shared or bookmarked. If visitors may still have the old URL, set up a 301 redirect using the steps above to avoid a 404 error.

What is the difference between a broken link and a 404 error?

A broken link is any link on your site that does not work as expected — it may be disabled, pointing to the wrong URL, or connecting to a page that no longer exists. A 404 error is what visitors see when a URL on your site leads to a page that cannot be found. Broken links can cause 404 errors, but not all 404 errors are caused by links — they can also occur when someone types an incorrect URL directly.
