Overview

The External URL field in a Presence® press release is a link to the webpage where that press article is already published — such as a news site, blog, or online publication that featured you. It is not a field for creating a new page on your website. The URL you enter must already be live and working before you add it.

What the External URL field is for

The Presence® press feature is designed to showcase media coverage you've received from external sources — news outlets, real estate publications, lifestyle blogs, and similar sites. The External URL tells Presence® where that coverage lives online, so when a visitor clicks your press item on your website, they are taken directly to the original article.

Important: Presence® does not host the full text of press articles — it links out to wherever the article already exists on the web. If the article has not been published anywhere online yet, there is no URL to enter.

What to enter in the External URL field

Enter the full URL of the page where the press article is published. The URL should:

  • Start with https://
  • Link directly to the article or feature — not just the homepage of the publication
  • Be a page you can open in your browser right now without getting an error

What to do if the URL shows a 404 error

A "404 Not Found" error means the page at that URL does not exist or is not accessible. This is not a problem with Presence® — it means the URL you entered is broken or the article has not been published yet.

To fix it:

  1. Open the URL in a browser tab and confirm the article loads correctly.
  2. If the link is broken, check whether the publication changed the URL and copy the new one.
  3. If the article is not yet published, wait until it is live before adding it to Presence®.
  4. Navigate to the Presence® Platform.
  5. In the left-hand menu, click Content to expand the submenu, then select Press Releases.
  6. Open the press release, update the External URL field with the correct working link, and click Save.

Note: Visitors who click a press item with a broken External URL will also see a 404 error. Always verify the URL works before saving.

Can I use a link to a page on my own Presence® website as the External URL?

Technically you can enter any URL, but the External URL field is intended for links to external coverage on other websites — not pages on your own site. If you want visitors to read content on your own site, consider using your blog or a dedicated page instead of the press releases feature.

Do I need to include the full URL including https://?

Yes — you need to enter the complete URL including the https:// prefix. Incomplete URLs may not link correctly.
